To be included in the research study, individuals must:

  • Have COPD
  • Have significantly reduced pulmonary function (FEV1 < 40% predicted)
  • Be younger than 53 years of age (unless qualifying spirometry performed before the age of 53 is available)
  • Not have severe alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency

The single study visit lasts approximately 2 hours, and includes a breathing test, a questionnaire, a blood sample, cheek swabs, and a urine sample. Study visits can be done at the participant's home or at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. 

Study participants will be compensated with a $50 payment.
